I particularly admired the juxtaposition between our world’s wasteland and our nature’s beauty. Vivienne Westwood being the vocal activist she was, it was important that I touch upon environmental issues and sustainability through my photography. Due to COVID-19’s health and safety restrictions, it meant that I would be capturing my models in a natural, outdoor environment which perfectly highlighted my theme of sustainability. Utilizing my resources and current location for the photoshoot, you can see how I have embraced the Middle East’s natural terrain by shooting against a boulder that features the desert countryside. Adopting the Middle Eastern country life I had styled my model in airy, fresh white linen accessorizing with chunky Bedouin jewellery (to bring in the Vivienne Westwood’s bold style) and beige cashmere scarf. My intention was to subvert Cottagecore’s stereotype of the suburban farmgirl on a field, and instead illustrate a Middle Eastern take on this idea of a ‘rural fantasy’.
